Best Unofficial APIs

Most enterprise software never shipped a public API. Vertical platforms, trucking TMS systems, EHRs, claims portals and payroll providers expose a web UI and nothing else, leaving integrators three options: type into the portal by hand, drive the UI with browser automation, or reverse-engineer the internal network calls the front-end already makes and wrap them in a documented API. This category benchmarks the providers doing the third thing, plus the leading open-source browser agent as a baseline. To be listed, a provider must deliver programmatic access to systems that have no public API, which excludes unified-API platforms that aggregate official APIs (Merge, Nango, Rutter, Codat) and browser or scraping capacity sold as raw sessions and proxies (Browserbase, Bright Data, Apify). Compare on whether the integration arrives as a documented, versioned contract (REST plus OpenAPI, increasingly MCP) or a script you inherit; whether anyone is monitoring it, since these projects die from the vendor redesigning at 3am rather than from the initial build; latency, because UI-driven approaches cost seconds per step against milliseconds at the API layer and that compounds across multi-step agent workflows; and commercial transparency, which is this category's collective weak spot, as several of the strongest technical options publish no pricing at all.

Which unofficial APIs have a free tier?
Supergood, Truv, superglue, Browser Use, Integuru offer a free tier or trial credits.
How is the APIbenchmarks Index calculated?
The ABI is a weighted composite of four dimensions scored on absolute reference scales: documentation & DX (30%), reliability (25%), ecosystem & SDKs (25%), and accessibility (20%). Price is excluded from the composite because price units are not comparable across categories. The full formula is on the methodology page.
